The Institute of Hazard, Risk and Resilience (IHRR) supports Zaporizhzhia National University (ZNU), Ukraine, by documenting the realities of the ongoing crisis in Ukraine through technology.
On 4 December 2023, an IHRR team (Prof. Bruce Malamud, Dr Hanna Ruszczyk, and Dr Aaron Neill) met with Prof. Olena Tupakhina, Vice-Rector for International Affairs and Projects, Zaporizhzhia National University, Ukraine. Part of the discussions included the possibility of future collaboration utilising virtual reality as a tool. Prof. Malamud gave Prof. Tupakhina a Ricoh Theta X 360-degree camera to document the current realities of life in Ukraine. This camera captures photos and videos in 360-degrees, which can be viewed on flat screen displays as a panoramic view or with virtual reality headsets facilitating a multi-media immersive experience. The IHRR team will provide training on how to use the technology in the coming months.
