Kate Webb of the Durham Energy Institute (DEI) has been named Apprentice of the Year at the University's 2024 Professional Services: Inspiring the Extraordinary Awards.
The Professional Services: Inspiring the Extraordinary Awards are an annual celebration that brings together colleagues from all parts of the University and recognises and rewards both their individual and team contributions. Whether it be for their inspiring ideas, their leadership and citizenship, for their skill to bring about change or their unwavering dedication to areas such as Equality, Diversity and Inclusion or the Environment and Sustainability, we want to recognise them for all the great things they do. This year an astonishing 554 nominations were received in total across the 14 categories!
Kate was entered into the competition by her line manager, Durham Energy Institute Manager Lynn Gibson. Lynn nominated Kate for the apprentice of the year award because of her exemplary performance and highly professional attitude towards her work. Kate has shown remarkable growth in her role, taking on responsibilities typically associated with higher-grade positions. Kate's eagerness to learn and willingness to take on new challenges demonstrate the qualities of an outstanding apprentice who is committed to personal and professional development.
Kate has had a significant positive impact on her colleagues and the DEI. Her willingness to take on additional responsibilities has eased the workload of her colleagues and improved the overall efficiency of the DEI. By competently handling the administration of the Energy CDT and serving as secretariat to Energi Coast, Kate is contributing to the smooth operation of important initiatives within and beyond the university. Her involvement in high-level meetings (Executive Committee and Advisory Board) allows for better information flow and decision-making processes within the department. Kate's performance likely serves as an inspiration to other apprentices and junior staff members, setting a high standard for what can be achieved in an apprentice role.
The award ceremony took place on 22nd January 2025 at Mount Oswald Hub, where the awards were presented to the winners. You can view the brochure from the awards here.
