Collectives and Online Platforms

MLAC’s vibrant and varied community gathers primarily around the 

As their webpages show, these clusters promote and foster intellectual interaction and dialogue and welcome students, practitioners and staff from and beyond MLAC. 

Closely aligned research groups within MLAC include the Decolonising MLAC Research Group, the Centre for Nineteenth Century Studies and Living Texts Research Group. 

Through online platforms, members of the Translation Zone find informal ways to share ideas widely and connect with others beyond the university.  Check out, Tina Kover and Charlotte Coombe’s YouTube channel, Translators Aloud, which offers a positive space for sharing great literature read aloud by literary translators working into English from many global languages.  Also see Tom Wynn’s blog at thebadbooksblog.com about his translation (with Will McMorran) of the Marquis de Sade novel 120 Days of Sodom. 

Beyond Durham

  • Transversos is a poetry translation column written by Raquel Rivas Rojas (MLaC) for the literary magazine, Papel Literario, El Nacional, Caracas.
  • The Paris Review has a series called ‘The Art of Translation’ in which they interview different translators and writers in each issue.
  • Comparative Critical Studies is a series that publishes innovative perspectives on the theory and practice of the study of comparative literature, including the theory and practice of literary translation and cultural transfer.
  • Counterpoint is an online magazine (e-zine) for all that are interested in literary translation: translators, publishers, agents, researchers, students, journalists, or just have a general interest in literature across borders.
