Ski and Snowboard

Club Captain: Wilfred Palmer-Tomkinson

Durham University Ski and Snowboard Club (DUSSC), is one of Durham University’s largest clubs with over 300 current members and 1000 alumni. The society is inclusive and welcoming, enabling all students, regardless of experience, to get involved with snow sports at university, whilst also committing to the development of the club’s talented competitors. We have a huge presence throughout the University largely due to our famous socials that are organised throughout the year for members from all colleges, degrees and year groups. Furthermore, we are the only sports club/society that offer a social membership if you don’t fancy yourself a competitive skier and just want to join our socials, earn some discounts from ski brands and purchase some of the popular DUSSC stash you will see people wearing around town.

DUSSC is not just about speed and tricks.  We also have biweekly trips to the indoor snowdome at Castleford and Infinite Air for those that need their snow fix. Also, in Easter, DUSSC joins forces with Palatinalps to provide one of the biggest and best weeks on snow you will ever have!

Additional Information

Weekly freestyle and race training sessions cater for all levels, from experts to those that just want to try something new (many of the team had never competed before arriving at university). We compete in all student events; King's and BUDS for a bit of fun, with BUISC being a bit more serious, finishing the season off with an amazing week at BUCS Main Event in the Alps.

Palatinalps

Palatinalps is the UK’s largest single-university snow sports event. Organised by Durham students, for Durham students, it’s so highly anticipated that sign-up day has been described in Tatler as ‘one of the most eagerly anticipated moments of Michaelmas.’ Every year, over 1,500 Durham students make the pilgrimage to the French Alps for a week of alpine antics on some of the finest pistes in Europe. But Palatinalps doesn’t stop there: for many, the most indelible memories are made off the slopes. Lengthy day-glo après-ski sessions and high-octane, high-altitude parties soundtracked by serious calibre bookings are the perfect opportunity to get loose with friends new and old. And for those who like to keep things a little lower-consequence but just as life-enhancing, other experiences like yoga sessions and helicopter rides abound. Whatever your priorities, Palatinalps won’t fail to live up to its reputation of creating stories you can’t live down.

See you for first lift.
