Bailey James deadlift

Bailey James attended the 7th IPF/FISU World University Powerlifting Cup held in Istanbul, Turkey, 2022. Read on for a performance review, representing Team Durham Powerlifting.

Bailey James, a law student at South College, Durham University, travelled to Turkey in October to compete in the IPF/FISU World University Powerlifting Cup; his first international representation.
After a tremendous performance at the British University Championships, where Bailey achieved a 430kg total (Squat: 152.5kg, Bench: 92.5kg, Deadlift: 185kg),16 people were selected to represent Britain at the World University Powerlifting Cup; Bailey was one of two selected in the u59kg Mens' category. After 8 weeks of training, and competing in the Welsh Autumn Cup 2022, Bailey was ready to travel to compete. 
Arriving in Turkey on Saturday the 29th of October, Bailey had two days to adjust ready to compete on the Monday. An overall summary from the day details as follows. 
  • Bailey hit 8/9 good lifts, achieving a 460kg total (new personal record) and an overall 3rd place. 
  • Bailey's squat achieved a new personal best of 165kg, securing 2nd place in this event.
  • Bench press secured third place and another personal record, lifting 102.5kg. 
  • Deadlift also secured third place, with a maximum lift of 192.5kg. 

Well done to Bailey, for representing Durham University, and Great Britain, on the world stage. We're excited to see how Bailey's career pans out throughout the rest of his time at Durham.
