Welcome to St Aidan's, where I hope you will spend some of the happiest and most interesting years of your life. This is the rainbow College, a multicultural, multi-faith community, which is proud to host Durham Pride and Durham City of Sanctuary, the Centre for Sex, Gender and Sexualities, the Centre for Jewish Studies, the University Islamic chaplaincy and collaborations with artists, writers and social entrepreneurs across the region and the world. You will make lifelong friendships with people from all backgrounds, personalities and academic subjects, choosing your own pace in settings that range from quiet, informal encounters to imaginatively themed extravaganzas in the Dining Hall. Whether you decide to explore the cultural forums and Language Evenings, volunteer in local community engagement projects, develop new or familiar forms of expression in the Creative Writing Course or Arts activities, contribute your ideas and energies to annual celebrations like Chinese New Year or to our environmental Green Network or help to sustain our participation in a wide spectrum of sports, you will be encouraged and inspired. In Aidan's, staff and students work together in mutual respect aiming to create an atmosphere in which everyone can flourish. So take your time and enjoy settling into your new home.
