Congratulations to Patrick Hughes, one of our outstanding Laidlaw scholar MBiol students graduating this year, who was given the DUSVO "Best Health & Wellbeing Effort" award 2024.
This honour was given due to his sterling volunteering work for Parkinson's Pals (PP) (since October 2022), and co-leading PP over the last year with Arthur Robinson, one of our other Biosciences graduates. More specifically, we thank Patrick for recruiting volunteers, hosting awareness sessions with Kirsty McDowell from Parkinson's UK and Mick from the Durham PUK support group (Mick kindly delivers teaching Q&A sessions as a Parkinsons liver in our Biosciences Ageing module), and co-leading the community sessions for the past 12 months on our WRIHW Unmasking pain programme. Furthermore, with the help of Arthur, Patrick has raised awareness about Parkinsons widely in the student community, and raised over 300 pounds partnering with the BioSoc ball in February of this year.
