Our new IHRR Fellowship scheme for Durham University staff is an exciting opportunity for researchers, practitioners and leaders in the fields of hazard, risk, and resilience to become part of a dynamic and supportive community that shares their vision for a safer, more resilient future. Why join our Durham University IHRR Fellowship programme?

1. Promotion and Affiliation: As a Fellow of our institute, you will benefit from IHRR promotion and recognition for your work. We will proudly feature your affiliation on our website, in our newsletters, in our social media posts and during our events. We will also actively promote your publications, career updates and news items, enhancing your professional reputation and reach. Finally, this affiliation will be useful to add to your grant proposals and outreach material.
2. Networking Opportunities: Our institute has a diverse and extensive network of experts, collaborators, and partners from academia, NGOs, government agencies, and industry sectors. As a Fellow, you will have access to this network, enabling you to forge valuable connections and identify (and be identified by) potential collaborators for research and grant applications.
3. Seedcorn Funding: We understand the importance of seedcorn funding for innovative research projects on hazard, risk, and resilience-related topics. Fellows will have access to directed calls from the institute for seed corn funding (e.g., for 2024/25 we will have IHRR fellowship seedcorn calls for £500 to £4k, some country-specific), empowering you to kickstart projects that can make a real difference in hazard and resilience research.
4. Collaborative Grant Proposal Meetings: We actively support collaborative efforts by organizing meetings to develop grant proposals related to hazard, risk and resilience. Our institute can help with logistics (administrative support, boardroom meeting space) and provide costs for refreshments to facilitate productive discussions among Fellows and their partners. This collaborative environment enhances the chances of securing funding for impactful projects.
5. Regular Informal Meets and Greets: A sense of camaraderie and exchanging ideas are essential to our institutional culture. Join us for regular beverages, biscuits, and catch-up

   chats, where you can engage in informal discussions with fellow researchers, share insights, and spark innovative ideas.
6. Hot Desk Space: We will be trialling drop-in spaces for Fellows.
7. Access to IHRR equipment: The IHRR has VR headsets, camera equipment, live-streaming equipment, and a laser scanner available to IHRR Fellows for their research work.
8. Global Impact: Our institute is committed to making a difference in the UK and more vulnerable regions across the global south, where the need for hazard, risk, and resilience research is particularly acute. IHRR Fellowship Application Procedure

Thank you for your interest in becoming a Fellow at the Institute of Hazard, Risk, and Resilience at Durham University. Our Fellowship programme is designed to bring together passionate individuals dedicated to advancing the fields of hazard, risk, and resilience. To ensure that our Fellows are committed to actively participating in our events and contributing to our shared goals, we have an application process. Here is a step-by-step guide to applying:

1. Application Materials (in PDF, labelled with your name):
   1. A 2–3 page curriculum vitae (CV) and list of publications: Please include an up-to-date CV, highlighting your academic and professional achievements, research experience, publications, and any relevant affiliations. Your list of publications is not included in the 2–3 page CV count.
   2. 500-Word Statement: Please include an up to 500-word statement explaining how your work or research interests relate to hazard, risk, and resilience. Describe specific projects or areas of interest that align with the institute’s mission, related conferences you have/might attend and how affiliation with the institute will aid in the pursuit of our shared goals.
   3. After your 500-word statement, in the same document, please include a page which has the following information which we would need for the IHRR website should you become a fellow: Your title, name as you would want it to appear, URL to your Durham University profile, 8–10 word description of yourself.
2. Submit Your Application: Applications will be evaluated on a rolling basis. Please email your application materials to our Fellowship Committee at ihrr.admin@durham.ac.uk. In the subject line, use the format: “Fellowship Application: [Your Full Name].”
3. Application Review: Our Fellowship Committee will review all applications to assess their alignment with our institute’s goals and objectives.
4. Acceptance and Onboarding: If selected as a Fellow, you will receive an acceptance letter and information about the onboarding process. This will include details about your affiliation with the institute, title, access to resources, a welcome pack, and a timetable for participating in institute events and initiatives. We will also transfer your information to Human Resources so that “IHRR Fellow” can appear in your web page profile.

What do we expect of Durham University IHRR fellows?

• Active participation in IHRR activities.
• Acting as an ambassador for the IHRR.
• Use of IHRR affiliation where appropriate.
