[11/23] Durham University's Department of Geography and the Institute of Hazard, Risk and Resilience (IHRR) jointly organised a half-day careers day for Durham's three Risk Masters programmes.
Durham University Taught Masters Programmes have been running within the Geography Department in collaboration with the Institute of Hazard, Risk and Resilience (IHRR) since 2010.
This half-day career event was well attended by over 20 current PGT Masters students from the ‘Climate, Risk & Society’, ‘Environmental Hazards & Risk’, and ‘Risk, Security & Politics’ programmes. Many of our Masters alumni have found exciting and varied careers in these areas and this event was intended to explore opportunities relevant to their field of study and demonstrate how the skills learned on the course can be put into practice.
Organized by Geography Elizabeth Orr in conjunction with the IHRR, and with introductions by Programme Director Lauren Martin, and IHRR director Bruce Malamud, the event featured a keynote talk by Andy Davis of Trident Manor Limited.
After this keynote, there were talks (with plenty of time for questions) given by eight student alumni: Luke Hewitson (2019/20) of Cathie Group, Alice Cooper (2020/21) of AECOM, Alex Nwoko (2015/16) of iMMAP Afghanistan, Lucy Charlesworth (2019/20) of IBM, Oluwafemi Ojo (2021/22) of World Kinect Corporation, Lauren Hands (2019/20) of UK Health Security Agency, Georgie Stumbles (2021/22) of Jacobs, Callum Ellis (2017/18) of Marsh. These talks were followed by closing remarks by Lauren Martin and an hour networking event.
