[08/24] The Institute for Hazard, Risk, and Resilience (IHRR) was delighted to welcome Tunisha Gyawali, Prajwal Timsina, and Dr. Bhim Kumar Dahal from the Institute of Engineering (IoE), Tribhuvan University, Nepal, for collaborative research.

In December 2023, Dr Ellen Robson (Post-Doctoral Research Associate at IHRR), Dr Bhim Kumar Dahal (Assistant Professor at the Institute of Engineering, Tribhuvan University, Nepal) and Professor David Toll (IHRR Co-Director) were awarded a £35k grant by EPSRC Impact Acceleration Account (IAA). This project aims to prepare and publish a comprehensive set of road cut design policy guidelines.

In the summer, the IHRR welcomed Research Assistants Tunisha Gyawali and Prajwal Timsina for nine weeks during the summer to conduct research as part of the project. They were processing field data on the stability of road cut slope in Nepal, and conducting numerical analyses based on this field data. This work will feed into the development of the guidelines. Dr Dahal also visited for a week during the summer to support the progress of this work - you can read more on Dr Dahal's visitor page.

This project is supported by Mott MacDonald UK, the Government of Nepal's Department of Local Infrastructure, and Nepal Geotechnical Society
