[07/24] Dr Samprada Pradhan has been awarded the 2024 Emerging Engineers Award by the Institution of Civil Engineers West Midlands

Former Institute of Hazard, Risk and Resilience (IHRR) PhD student, Dr Samprada Pradhan, has been awarded the 2024 Emerging Engineers Award by the Institution of Civil Engineers  (ICE) West Midlands. ICE West Midlands covers a large geographical area which represents around 5,000 civil engineers based across Birmingham, the Black County, Coventry, Herefordshire, Shropshire, Staffordshire, Worcestershire and Warwickshire.

Pradhan presented a paper titled “Lessons learnt from real-time monitoring of rainfall and soil-water content”. Pradhan shared the monitoring results, highlighting how atmospheric drying and wetting processes affect shallow slope failures. The presentation was based on her PhD studies, funded by IHRR’s Action on Natural Disasters programme, supervised by IHRR Co-Director Professor David Toll, Professor Nick Rosser and Professor Matt Brain.
