Dr Ruszczyk was invited to reflect on what it means to be a city
Dr Hanna Ruszczyk, Post Doctoral Research Associate at the Institute of Hazard, Risk and Resilience (IHRR) at Durham University, was invited to speak to students at the Department of Geography and Regional Research, at the University of Vienna. This was part of the Critical Perspectives on Urban Development section of the Global Urban Majority Masters course for students in Spatial Research and Spatial Planning.
In this talk organised by Dr Julia Wesely, Dr Ruszczyk spoke about her urban focused research in Nepal. This included the role of urban planning, land use plans and how cities develop in rapidly changing political and economic contexts.
Dr Ruszczyk and Dr Wesely are both part of the Overlooked Cities collective, which considers the changing landscape of urban studies and geography from the perspective of smaller and more regional cities in the urban South.
