Dr Ruszczyk spoke at the Gender in Crisis conference in Utrecht, 4 July 2024
In early July 2024, the Gender Urban Research Collective organised a 3-day conference to consider the intersection of gender, disasters, climate change, architecture and leadership in The University of Utrecht. The organisers include Professor Elisa Flore of the University of Utrecht and Margot Rubin of Cardiff University. The conference was a gathering of 40 scholars and practitioners from over 10 countries.
Dr Hanna Ruszczyk, Post Doctoral Research Associate at the Institute of Hazard, Risk and Resilience (IHRR) had two interventions. She spoke about her recently published monograph titled Gender and Resilience in the City which is a longitudinal study of how gendered groups influence the development of cities.
The second talk, together with Professor Ksenia Chmutina of Loughborough University and Professor Belen Desmaison of Arquitectura PUCP, discussed how the 'Feminism and the City???' Seminar series and digital Magazine were created. This digital magazine is a combination of photography, poems, reflections, A-Zs, and theoretical considerations of feminism and the city. The 24 contributions are from Africa, Latin American, South Asia, North America and Europe and in four languages (English, French, Portuguese and Spanish). You can access the magazine on the Gender Responsive Resilience & Intersectionality In Policy and Practice (GRRIPP) page.
