Steve Chivasa (DCCIT co-director) together with Maureen Vere (Verager Ltd.) convened an Innovate UK-funded workshop between 22-23 March 2023. The workshop themed "Convergence of Agritech and Business Innovations to Develop Agriculture Value Chains" was held at Bronte Hotel in Harare (Zimbabwe).
The workshop brought together academics, smallholder farmers, government policymakers, banks, and several businesses to discuss agricultural productivity and how agritech innovations and imaginative financing models can be developed to spur the growth of new crop value chains that benefit smallholder farmer clusters in SME supply chains. On the sidelines of this workshop Steve Chivasa was interviewed on The Mint, a business programme of ZTN television channel. The discussion cantered on soil degradation, drought, and agritech innovations being developed by the Durham Centre for Crop Improvement Technologies (DCCIT) for crop protection against drought.
