Established in 2002, the Surf Club is an up and coming University sports club, consisting of over 600 members and a core group of dedicated surfers. We cater for surfers of all abilities, from non-surfing beginners to WSL World Tour professionals. Whether it’s a hollow pumping reef in sub-zero temperatures, or a mellow sunset surf on the golden beaches of Morocco or France, we have it all!
Cost: £39 / annum
The Tynemouth trips are catered specifically for beginners and intermediate surfers. They run throughout the year in a multitude of British weather conditions. The surf shop Tynemouth Surf Co. has everything you could possibly need: boards, wetsuits, hot food and showers (hose pipe!) They have a wide variety of boards available, from the classic beginner “foamy” soft board, to improver boards of all shapes and sizes.
For our most experienced surfers, the Northeast boasts some of the best waves in Britain, often attracting team riders from across the UK and frequently featuring in Carve/Wavelength magazines. Whilst the sea temperature can get as cold as 5 degrees in the depths of winter, a decent wetsuit (6mm recommended) can easily overcome the chill of the North Sea.
Surfers of all abilities are welcome and there is no obligation for you to compete. It’s a great laugh and a chance to get to know other surfers from all over the country. So be prepared for some nice waves, a friendly chilled out atmosphere and amazing socials. It’s a really fun weekend.
With pumping waves, incredible food and a fantastic club. For the professionals, we are provided with cars so you can make your way to the barrelling reefs that line the Moroccan coast line, with overhead monster waves crashing down on the razor sharp, crumbling, beaten up rocks. For beginners and intermediates, the instructors take you to the beautiful beaches surrounding Taghazout where you spend the day chilling out and catching foamy waves. A week of lessons and you’ll be ripping up the waves in no time. We travel together (usually from Gatwick) to Taghazout where we are loaded onto a minibus and transported to the door of the Surf Berbere beach side lodge. There’s so much more to the trip than just surfing: camel rides, beach football, kittens, exploring caves, cliff jumping, socials, making amazing new friends. It’s a trip you just can’t miss!
Our summer surf trip takes us to the shores of the south west coast of France, to the Starsurf camp situated in the forest only 5 minutes walk from the beautiful sandy beach of Moliets Plage. Surf lessons and yoga sessions are available to sign up to which are optional, and there is the choice of a beginner course or advanced course with an amazing set of instructors. Included in the price of is 3 catered meals a day. The San Sebastian trip is not to be missed out on; we will travel down to Spain on the bus for an afternoon of sightseeing and tapas.
