Team Durham x TAP

Team Durham is thrilled to announce a groundbreaking partnership with The Athlete Place (TAP), a comprehensive platform dedicated to athlete wellbeing and performance. We sat down with founder Joe Fuggle, who gave us an insight into the services provided by The Athlete Place.

Introduction

We had the privilege of sitting down with The Athlete Place founder Joe Fuggle to learn how this innovative platform can help Team Durham athletes prioritise their mental well-being and enhance their performance. A platform “by athletes, for athletes,” TAP offers valuable resources and support to meet the unique challenges faced by student-athletes.

Joe Fuggle, a former international athlete, founded The Athlete Place TAP in 2020. He explains, “What started as a simple blog where athletes could share their mental health and wellbeing journeys has evolved into a comprehensive information and guidance platform for athletes. It covers all areas essential for unlocking full potential.” This partnership will support Team Durham athletes not just in their performance on the field but also in their mental health, mindfulness, and overall well-being.

TAP operates on the principle that “athletes don’t know what they don’t know," offering resources that aim to “provide athletes across all sports with the information needed to succeed and limit the inevitable difficulties of sport.”

The Process

Drawing from his experience as a former GB athlete and as a student-athlete at Loughborough University, Joe Fuggle created TAP to address the overlooked struggles of student-athletes. Reflecting on its origins, Joe shared: “It seemed crazy that the experiences of those who’d gone before weren’t being passed on to help others avoid the same problems and heartache. The blog was created, and TAP was born, hoping to turn my difficult experiences into something that could benefit others.”

Content and Resources

TAP uses an elite network of professional athletes and subject experts to deliver expert guidance across key areas such as sleep, nutrition, injury prevention, and mental well-being. Whether you’re representing your country or just beginning your sporting journey, TAP provides tailored tools and advice to help athletes at every level.

Team Durham members can access TAP’s resources FOR FREE. This platform empowers athletes to take charge of their performance and mental well-being by offering support, guidance, and space to learn and grow.

What's next...

Team Durham is proud to partner with TAP to provide our student-athletes with unparalleled support. This partnership reflects our commitment to helping athletes become their best, happiest selves.

In the words of TAP founder Joe Fuggle: “Attention to detail is paramount. You can’t ‘Just Do It’... Those at the top have extensive support systems—nutritionists, psychologists, physios, and more—while others are left to fend for themselves. We created TAP to bridge this gap, providing guidance that enables everyone to pursue their sporting goals.

This partnership marks a significant step forward for Team Durham and our university’s sports program. With free access to TAP, our athletes can gain a competitive advantage, enabling them to excel both in and beyond sports.
