Medical Humanities Access Award

As part of our commitment to diversity and inclusion, the Institute for Medical Humanities is offering a Masters scholarship to support ethnic minority students access Durham’s new Master of Arts in Medical Humanities.

The Access Award aims to support an applicant who identifies as a member of a minority ethnic community in the UK and shows outstanding academic achievement and promise within a health-related field.

Applicants must have applied for full-time study on the Master of Arts in Medical Humanities course, for either the online or in-person options

The scholarship will fully cover the one year Home UK fees for the Master.

Award details

  • Equivalent to one year of Home UK fees: £10,800 for 23/24.
  • Awarded to one applicant per year.

Eligibility:

  • Open to UK applicants who qualify for home fees.
  • Applicants must not be in receipt of any other scholarship/bursary, employee funding, or public funds to cover their postgraduate tuition fees.
  • Applicants must have applied for full-time study on the Master of Arts in Medical Humanities course (either online or in-person).
  • Applicants must meet all stated requirements for admission into the Master of Arts in Medical Humanities course.
  • Applicants must not already hold a postgraduate degree.
  • Applicants must identify as a member of a minority ethnic community in the UK.

Assessment Criteria include:

  • Academic performance to date.
  • Clear and compelling articulation of the applicant’s goals and visions for their future.

Note: A good character reference highlights the applicant’s positive qualities, potential for future success, and their specific ambitions to develop within the domain of medical humanities.

Application Deadline:

  • The application form and character reference should both be submitted by 5pm (BST) on May 1st 2023.
  • We aim to notify the successful applicant by 5pm (BST) on June 1st 2023.
