Dr Wajid Khan is Head of Research at the South West Yorkshire Partnership NHS Foundation Trust. He is also an Associate Clinical & Forensic Psychologist. Wajid has worked in the NHS and health care setting for over 18 years building extensive experience in clinical, research and teaching practices. South West Yorkshire Partnership is a specialist NHS Foundation Trust that provides community, mental health and learning disability services to the people of Barnsley, Calderdale, Kirklees and Wakefield.
Wajid joined the Research Department in 2015 having previously worked in the Clinical Psychology Team in Wakefield and North Kirklees alongside a teaching and research role at the University of Huddersfield.
Within Wajid’s current role, he manages a progressive team of researchers who work across the NHS and university partners supporting clinical and academic colleagues to engage and develop their research capacity and aspirations. As R&D manager with delegated responsibility for the trust R&D function, Wajid represents and coordinates strategic plans and activities within regional and national research partners including the Local Clinical Research Network (LCRN), National Institute of Health Research (NIHR), Academic Health Sciences Network (AHSN) and the Health Research Authority (HRA). Utilising these relationships to provide bespoke guidance and support to colleagues who may wish to undertake research within the specialist mental health services.
Wajid completed his Forensic PhD in 2017 which focused upon creating a deeper understanding of the psychological pathways into radicalisation and terrorism. Alongside this specialist research area Wajid's wider research focus includes an analysis of psychological recovery models and in particular the construction and narrative analysis of cross-cultural psychology and its impact upon treatment and support for service users.
