IAS CARA Fellow at Ustinov College, October - December 2024
Nataliia Ishchenko, PhD in Economics, is Associate Professor at Petro Mohyla Black Sea National University (PMBSNU) and a visiting CARA Fellow at Durham University Business School, Department of Management and Marketing, from August 2022 to July 2024. While her research primarily focuses on logistics, optimizing methods and models, and sustainability, Nataliia also possesses valuable experience in higher education institution management. For eight years, she served as an educational manager, holding positions such as the head of the Department of Economic Theory and International Economy, Dean of the Faculty of Economics, and first Vice-Rector, responsible for overseeing educational processes. Her exceptional contributions to education and science have been recognized by the Ministry of Education and Science of Ukraine.
Dr Ishchenko has actively participated in and coordinated numerous international projects aimed at enhancing educational patterns in Ukraine. The most notable are:
Dr Ishchenko's future role and contribution to the IAS major research project ’Looking Back to Move Forward: History, Recovery, and Sustainability in Understanding the War in Ukraine’ involves studying educational models that promote a resilient post-war economy, focusing on its recovery and sustainable development. In tight collaboration with Dr Markian Prokopovych (History) and Dr Chrysostomos Apostolidis (Marketing), Dr Ishchenko will provide practical recommendations for implementing structural changes in post-war economic development through comprehensive research encompassing technologies, methodologies, and crucial soft and hard skills. These recommendations will consider market needs, Ukraine's integration into the EU, emerging realities in the education field, budget constraints, demographic and cultural shifts, and other pertinent social changes. Additionally, Nataliia's experience as an advisor to the Head of the Regional State Administration on educational matters, her involvement as a co-developer of the Mykolaiv Urban Strategy, and her role as a consultant for the Mykolaiv Development Agency are invaluable in formulating effective recommendations to reform Ukraine's educational system in line with the requirements of the newly rebuilt economy.
