Professor Georgeta Ion

Georgeta Ion is a Professor of Educational Management and Organisation in the School of Educational Sciences at the Autonomous University of Barcelona (Universitat Autònoma de Barcelona - UAB). She is also a researcher at the CRiEDO research centre (Centre for Studies and Research in Organisational Development). In the last years, she has held leadership roles, including Coordinator of the Teacher Education study programme and since 2020 Vice Dean of Students and Internationalisation at the UAB. She teaches subjects related to educational research and practice links, such as Innovation in Education at the Pedagogy Bachelor degree and Research, Innovation and Educational change at Educational Research Master programme. She has been a visiting research fellow at the University of Helsinki (2013) and Trinity College Dublin (2016). She has also been invited to give talks and keynotes at UCL Institute of Education, the University of Bergamo, Bristol University, West University of Timisoara, University of Bucharest and Pädagogische Hochschule Zürich.

Her research topics are related to the study of evidence-informed policy and practice in education and effective assessment methods in Higher Education. In recent years, she conducted numerous studies examining school and HE teaching and learning improvement, student-teacher research competencies, and projects aimed at transformative research-informed educational innovations.

To develop her research, Professor Ion received funding from the Catalan Agency for Management of University and Research Grants, Spanish Ministry of Economy and Competitiveness, The Romanian Ministry of Education and European Union under Erasmus+ programme. The research outcomes have been published in leading journals, as Higher Education Research and Development, Assessment & Evaluation in Higher Education, Research Papers in Education and Educational Research for Policy and Practice, among others. She is a co-convenor at the European Educational Research Association for Research into Higher Education network and member of the reviewers' panel for the Romanian Executive Unit for Financing Higher Education, Research, Development and Innovation (UEFISCDI) and Netherlands Initiative for Educational Research, Programme Council for Applied Education Research (PPO) Longterm Practice-oriented education research.

During her stay at Durham University, Professor Ion will conduct collaborative work in the area of research capacity and research-informed policy and practice. Drawing on her experience from earlier work, she will contribute to the literature review in relation to the areas such as helping student teachers understand the role of cultural and social capital networks in the professional development. She will also explore practices strengthening teachers' research capacity, and she will contribute to design tools and strategies to foster teachers' and policymakers' engagement with research evidence.
