Institutes of Advanced Study at four Matariki Universities, including the Durham IAS, are offering their communities as home for academic visitors travelling between Matariki partners.

The Institute of Advanced Study at Durham University, The Swedish Collegium for Advanced Study, Uppsala, The College of Fellows, University of Tübingen, and the Institute of Advanced Study, University of Western Australia all provide vibrant communities for international visiting scholars working across disciplines. This network of IASs has agreed to open their doors to any researchers from a Matariki university visiting Durham, Uppsala, Tübingen or UWA. These visitors will be able to join the communities in these institutes, and engage with a wide range of international visiting scholars as well as their own research partners.

Whilst no support is offered for travel or accommodation during the visit, the Institutes hope that by providing access to their wider community of visiting international scholars as well as seminar programs and other activities, this will allow visiting Matariki scholars to feel welcomed into the university community, and make long-lasting research connections across the University.

From January 2025, anyone visiting one of these universities from any Matariki partner is able to connect with the relevant Institute through the contact details below ahead of their visit. The Institute will then provide information to welcome you to their community and provide information about how to access their activities.
