Abstract

We often encounter uncertainty both in our professional roles and in our daily lives. While uncertainty is commonly viewed as uncomfortable, it doesn't have to be. By reframing uncertainty in a positive light, we can reduce anxiety and overcome reluctance to face it. In this talk, Associate Professor Ullrika Sahlin will explore what it means to be uncertain—or certain—and offer strategies for becoming more skilled at it. Fortunately, training and experience can help. The talk will illustrate the benefits and challenges of embracing uncertainty, with examples from scientific experts conducting risk assessments on food safety and interactive discussions with the audience. This is a valuable opportunity to practice expressing uncertainty quantitatively through probability and calibrating your confidence.

This lecture is free and open to all. Registration is not required to attend in person.
