‘Dead Boy Detectives’ launched on Thursday 25 April on Netflix with George Rexstrew in a starring role.

George (Modern Languages, University College, 2013-17) made his Netflix debut in his first official TV acting role. He plays co-lead Edwin Paine in the series alongside actor Jayden Revri as Charles Rowland. Labelled as ‘pick of the week’ by national UK newspaper The Guardian, the series has garnered positive reviews highlighting its fun, spooky nature.

Dead Boy Detectives

The Netflix series has its origins in ‘The Sandman’ comic books published by DC Comics. Written by award-winning British author, screenwriter and voice actor Neil Gaiman, the ‘Dead Boy Detectives’ first featured in the comic’s 25th issue (April 1991) and were brought to life by artists Matt Wagner and Malcolm Jones III.

Two central characters, Edwin and Charles, have chosen to remain on Earth rather than enter the afterlife, to help ghosts resolve their mysteries in this 8-part supernatural comedy series.

Class of 2017, Durham Student Theatre

While studying Modern Languages at Durham, George was an active member of Durham Student Theatre (DST), acting in and directing a host of performances including Monty Python’s Spamalot, The Bakewell Bake Off: A New Musical, Much Ado About Nothing and more. He received the Judges Commendation for Direction in the 2016 National Student Drama Festival and was selected as one of eight performers in 2017’s Durham Showcase. He has performed at the Edinburgh Fringe Festival on several occasions, and travelled to the USA, touring as part of our Castle Theatre Company. After graduating, he progressed to the prestigious London Academy of Music & Dramatic Art (LAMDA).

The class of 2017 also included The Durham Revue alumna Ambika Mod, who most recently starred in the blockbuster TV remake of ‘One Day’, which has launched her acting career into the stratosphere.
