Tapestry with alternating cultural object images

As part of Durham Global Week 2025, we are hosting 'The Stories We Carry' photo exhibition. This exhibition celebrates the diverse cultural backgrounds of our university community by highlighting personal objects or places that hold special meaning. Whether they reflect your heritage or are inspired by other cultures, we invite you to share something meaningful to you—perhaps an object you treasure, a place close to your heart, or an experience that shaped your view of the world.

What to submit

  • A clear photo of an object or place what you consider your heritage or culture.
  • A brief description (max 150 words) explaining the object’s significance and what it means to you

Examples of submissions

  • A family photograph or keepsake
  • Traditional clothing, jewellery, or accessories
  • A souvenir or object that connects you to your home country, or a country you have visited.

How to submit

Please send your high-resolution photo submissions (as JPG or PNG files) along with the description via this form. Deadline to submit: 15 February 2025

What happens next

Selected photos will be featured in The Stories We Carry exhibition during Durham Global Week. The exhibition will be displayed both physically and digitally, allowing everyone in our university community to experience the stories behind these meaningful objects.

This is a chance to share the objects that have shaped your life and reflect the diverse cultures in our university. We encourage everyone to participate and contribute to this celebration of heritage, identity, and cultural influence.

We look forward to seeing your photos and learning about the objects that tell your story!
