Students and colleagues stand with their certificates facing the camera

Postgraduate students from the Department of Sociology have been recognised for their outstanding work on their placement with the Durham Police and Crime Commissioner’s Office.

The Department of Sociology is proud to announce that Leyi Shan, Tivona Sivaram, Yuthika Shetty and Hithheshwar Rajeshwar, postgraduate students on the MSc in Sociology and MSc in Criminology and Criminal Justice, were each given a Police and Crime Commissioner Mentor Award in recognition of their outstanding work on the placement with the Durham Police and Crime Commissioner’s Office’s Community Peer Mentors Programme. In this placement, they provided one-to-one telephone support to vulnerable and isolated people, and conducted a tailored literature review for the Programme Lead, Jim Cunningham. Mr Cunningham praised our students for their empathy, exemplary work, and commitment to excellence. The Police and Crime Commissioner, Joy Allen, presented the awards with Chief Constable Rachel Bacon in attendance.

Well done, Leyi, Tivona, Yuthika, and Hithheshwar!
