We are Delighted to announce that the Physics department has been awarded Athens Swan Silver status until 2027 after going through a rigorous re-accreditation process.
The Athena Swan Charter is a framework which is used across the globe to support and transform gender equality within higher education (HE) and research. Established in 2005 to encourage and recognise commitment to advancing the careers of women in science, technology, engineering, maths and medicine (STEMM) employment, the Charter is now being used to address gender equality more broadly, and not just barriers to progression that affect women.
Huge thanks to the Departmental EDI (Equality, Diversity and Inclusion) Committee, and all those in the department whose work and dedication helped to make our bid successful, and to made the department a better place to work and study for all .
The Athena Swan Silver award primarily recognises that we have made progress against the Athena Swan Principles/values, but we realise that there is still more to do! We would be happy to hear from anyone who has ideas for improving inclusion in the department.
