Physics Education & Scholarship

Overview

Education and Scholarship projects span a variety of topics, from the development of teaching materials to physics-related social science projects. An Education and Scholarship project can provide you with the skills to branch out beyond typical physics academia, from teaching skills to relevant programming experience. They can also have clear real-world benefits, from the improvement of teaching and assessment to an improved understanding of learning habits, or public awareness of science.

Projects can involve understanding new ways to collect and analyse data, such as through surveys and focus groups, to work on the development of physics education. Other projects can involve using coding and development software to create materials designed for improved teaching of various topics in physics, such as virtual reality teaching materials.

Projects:

Projects are updated regularly, but previous project topics have included:

  • Addressing the shortage: an investigation into secondary school physics teachers' preparation and pathways
    • Examining the various education and training pathways that lead individuals to teaching and the potential implications of receiving training that lacks specificity to the discipline of physics.
  • Development of augmented reality and virtual reality teaching materials.
    • Develop and evaluate a set of augmented reality or virtual reality learning materials to aid physics and STEM students in advancing their conceptual understanding of key topics.
  • Quantum Science in Schools
    • Develop an activity to promote quantum literacy within schools. This involves engagement with teachers and students to inform the design and implementation of the activity.
