Congratulations to our My Greenspace app monthly winners!

New on the My Greenspace app this month:

On 27 October, British daylight saving time ends and the clocks go back one hour at 2am. This means that each morning and evening will be darker. Stay safe when cycling, walking or running by following our for safe active travel.

We're delighted to announce that our project entitled 'Enhancing Biodiversity at Durham' has been Highly Commended for the Nature Positive category in the International Green Gown Awards 2024. Ian Armstrong, Biodiversity Manager in our Estates and Facilities Directorate, explains more about the project and how it supports our sustainability strategy.

You may have noticed that the DU Grounds Maintenance Team have been busy again, this time creating mini wetlands areas in the Botanic Gardens with the aim of further supporting biodiversity across campus.

North East Sustainability Day, Biffa Waste Management, Seaham Last week, DU's Senior Sustainability Manager, Jane S, and Waste Manager, Darren H, and took part in Biffa's North East Sustainability Day. Jane and Darren learned about how Biffa, the University's waste management partner, recycle plastic bottles.

International E-Waste Day aims to raise awareness of electrical waste as the fastest growing source of waste in the world. Almost all of us have unwanted or broken cables clogging up our drawers at home or at work.

Thank you to all of the student volunteers who gave up their time to support the Greenspace stall at the Freshers Fair 2024. As always, our Greenspace movement is nothing without your continued support and attendance. Remember to log your volunteer hours on the My Greenspace app to earn points and win prizes for you and your college.
