FAQs on College accommodation and allocations

I met the conditions of my academic offer at Durham, why don’t I have an offer of accommodation?

All new first year undergraduates are guaranteed an offer of accommodation from the University providing you submitted the Accommodation Form by the deadline of Friday 12 July 2024. If we did not receive your Accommodation Form by this deadline we cannot guarantee that you will receive an offer of accommodation from the University. Further information is available about our Accommodation Guarantee.

I didn’t submit my Accommodation Form by the deadline of Friday 12 July 2024, will the University be able make me an offer of accommodation?

We are working hard to offer college accommodation to new first year undergraduate students who submitted their Accommodation Form after the deadline, but we cannot guarantee this. We are currently processing accommodation requests from those who did meet the accommodation guarantee. Once this is complete we will be able to clarify the situation for you.

The Accommodation and Allocations Office will contact you by Thursday 12 September 2024 at the latest to tell you whether we are able to make you an offer of college accommodation

What can I do if the University is unable to make me an offer of accommodation?

If we are not able to make you an offer of accommodation, the university will offer support and guidance in finding private accommodation in Durham. This may include a process to allow you to group with other members of your college to find a house together, and a webinar with advice and guidance on house hunting in Durham.

Does membership of a college mean I will be offered accommodation?

It is important to remember that confirmation of your college membership is not an offer of accommodation. Information about accommodation will be sent to you by 12 September at the latest.

Please be assured that even if we are not able to make you an offer of college accommodation, you will still be a full member of your college, with access to all events, facilities, and support throughout your time in Durham. Each college is a vibrant community of students from different backgrounds, nationalities, subject areas and levels of study. Every college offers many opportunities to meet new people and make friends.

When can I enrol and start making my module choices?

You will receive your IT account details up to 4 working days after your college membership has been confirmed. This will allow you to complete the enrolment process and select your optional modules. You will have until 20 September to complete this process. You can find out more information on the enrolment and module registration process here: Becoming a Durham Student - Durham University
