The Inspiring Excellence 5K scholarship is an invite to International Students to achieve the outstanding at Durham.
Each scholarship is a competitive award worth £5,000 towards the original tuition fee for a postgraduate taught programme starting in September 2025.
The selection will be based on an individual’s achievements and potential for positive impact upon completion of a Postgraduate Degree at Durham University.
The scholarships are available to all new international students to Durham who meet the eligibility criteria.
The scholarship will consist of a £5,000 per year tuition fee discount.
Please note that scholarships (tuition fee discounts) are not transferable and not deferrable, no cash alternative is offered and awardees' tuition fees will be automatically adjusted at the time of enrolment at Durham University.
Scholarships are available for programmes commencing in 2025/26 intake.
The scholarship is available to all one-year, full-time (in-person) taught MSc, MA, LLM or MDS programmes. (MBA/MSW excluded)

Please ensure you have submitted an academic application, with all supporting documents , via the postgraduate online application portal for one of the eligible programmes. You will need to have received an offer (conditional or unconditional) for the programme you applied at Durham by:
- 04 May 2025 for 1st round scholarship selection
- 08th June 2025 for 2nd round scholarship selection
In addition to submitting the academic application above, complete the Inspiring Excellence 5K Scholarship Online Application by these 2 deadlines:
1st Selection: midnight (GMT) 30th April 2025
2nd Selection: midnight (GMT) 08th June 2025

Applicants must be willing to participate and cooperate in marketing and communications activities (Scholarship Commitments) for their Faculty/Durham University. This may include testimonials and public relations opportunities, as well as being involved in and attending Open Events, Webinars or being a class representative.
Scholars who withdraw from their Scholarship Commitments or from the University will have all future scholarship discounts cancelled.
Scholars who suspend their Scholarship Commitments or academic studies will have all future scholarship discounts cancelled. Please note that only under exceptional circumstances e.g. medical reasons, and at the sole discretion of the Faculty Executive Dean, approval may be given for discounts to recommence after suspended studies continue.
