Modes of Teaching, Learning and Assessment and how these contribute to the learning outcomes of the module

  • Teaching will be in the form of eight 3-hour workshops that combine a lecture-style tutor-input approach with seminar discussion and group work. During workshops, the tutor will present some of the key theories, concepts, debates, approaches and practices of intercultural and international education through a series of key topics. Students are expected to engage with the themes and issues covered through interaction and critical discussion, student presentations of the literature and group work activities.
  • Formative feedback will be given throughout the course. A seminar session will focus on students essay outlines and provide verbal feedback on their plans, and discuss ideas for the essay, drawing links with the module content and learning outcomes.
  • The summative assignment consists of a 5000 word essay on a topic from the module. The specific topic is chosen by the students but has to be directly related to the module topics, and aligned with the module learning outcomes.
  • Students are permitted to use generative Artificial Intelligence (AI) tools to enhance readability and language in their summative essay but not in formative assessment. However, it is important to note the following restrictions to maintain academic integrity and uphold independent thinking. Students are not permitted to use generative AI:
  • (1) To generate primary ideas, arguments, or analyses. Original intellectual content should be derived from personal understanding and research.
  • (2) To locate or generate factual information. Independent research from reputable sources is essential.
  • Students should thoroughly review and edit content generated by AI to ensure alignment with their personal writing style and academic requirements. Students take full responsibility for the submitted version of their assignments.
  • If generative AI has been used in the preparation of an assignment, a statement must be included to declare its use and describe how it has been used at the point of submission.
