Aims

  • To develop students' knowledge and understanding of key issues relating to skills, training and HRD.
  • To familiarise students with methods and tools common to the analysis, development and evaluation of learning interventions

Learning Outcomes

Subject-specific Knowledge:

  • Have an advanced knowledge and understanding of the context and nature of skills at work in contemporary societies, and the implications of these for learning and development.
  • Be familiar with the methods and tools common to the analysis, development and evaluation of learning and development interventions.
  • Have an in-depth understanding of how learning, training, and development needs for all types of staff may be identified.
  • Have a critical appreciation of the importance of stakeholder involvement in the design and implementation of effective learning and development programmes.
  • Have a critical appreciation of the importance of incorporating equality and diversity in learning and development interventions.

Modes of Teaching, Learning and Assessment and how these contribute to the learning outcomes of the module

  • Through interactive workshops with activities such as group work, application exercises, and simulations, and guided reading addressing key topics, students will acquire the advanced skills and knowledge to enable them to develop a thorough understanding of this specialist field of study and practice.
  • The summative assessment of the module, by written assignment, is designed to test students' knowledge and understanding of the subject-matter, and their ability to apply it to the analysis of specific issues in training and HR

Formative Assessment

Students will submit literature analyses and undertake a series of activities aligned to the module content, receiving ongoing feedback on supporting theoretical knowledge and how it is applied. Students will also take a short formative quiz that ensures they have the foundational knowledge necessary to successfully accomplish the summative assessment.
