Join a dynamic international group of teachers at a first-class research-active Education Department at Durham University for a 5-day online conference focusing on critical understandings of models of teaching and learning in an internationalised context and their theoretical underpinnings.
Course Content
The interactive 5-day online conference covers the following areas:
Research evidence in classroom strategies for effective teaching and learning, particularly in international and multicultural settings.
The teacher as a reflective practitioner; developing an understanding of contextualisation in education.
Teaching for understanding in a multicultural setting.
Creative dimensions of teaching and learning, with reference to international schools.
The teacher as an active researcher; reflecting on various theoretical models relevant for teaching in an internationalised setting.
Outcomes and benefits
The fully online programme includes a designated specialist tutor, an international cohort group, lecture and seminar input, and peer group discussion during an initial 5-day conference programme.
Pre-conference activities: individual support from a specialist tutor during the conference; 3 individual online tutorials over the year following the conference to support the writing of the assignment.
Networking opportunities with peers – learn alongside practising teachers from various national and international contexts.
Transfer the 30 credits from the course to an MA Education (Part-time and online programmes are available at some institutions) the following year.
The 5-day conference is credit-bearing CPD, which means that you will earn 30 credits for the course (if you complete the assignment) and can put these credits towards an MA Education or other related course.
Entry requirements
You will need a 2.2 honours degree or international equivalent in any subject.
Language requirements:
IELTS 7.0 overall with no element below 6.5, alternative valid tests can be found on the Durham University website.
This requirement can be waived if you have completed a degree in an English-speaking country in the 2 years before the start date of this programme.
The tuition fees shown are for one complete academic year of study, are set according to the academic year of entry, and remain the same throughout the duration of the programme for that cohort (unless otherwise stated).

School of Education
The Department of Education offers a mix of teacher training and education research, set within a vibrant and engaged learning community of around fifty academic staff and 650 postgraduates. We are a leading educational research centre with strong international ties and numerous partner relationships with schools and colleges.
Our postgraduate courses are flexible and allow you to follow a particular interest. They include MAs in Education, Educational Leadership and Change, Intercultural Communication and Education and Research Methods. We also offer a range of PGCE qualifications at primary and secondary levels and in specific school subjects.
We provide the opportunity for learning from academic staff who are leading research and teaching experts in their fields. They underpin our Department’s commitment to conducting research that contributes to shaping educational practice and policy, develops educational research and methodologies, informs school improvements and supports the professional development of teachers around the world.
