Biography
I am a PhD student funded by the BBSRC Newcastle-Liverpool-Durham Doctoral Training Programme. I graduated from Durham University in 2023 with a MSci in Natural Sciences (Biology and Chemistry), having carried out my master’s project in Dr Liz Morris’ lab. The Morris lab aims to study protein interactions and mechanisms involved in virus replication to decrease the gap in our understanding of viral infections. My project aims to explore the antiviral mechanisms of SAMHD1, dNTPases and viperin proteins in prokaryotes and eukaryotes, working towards a universal model of nucleotide manipulation to restrict viral replication. This will include studying the mechanism by which ddhCTP (produced by viperin) inhibits viral infections and understanding the interplay of anti-viral dGTPases and the T7 bacteriophage counter-attack gp1.2 protein.
