Dr Maria Athanasiou


Research interests

  • Maria joined the School of Education in 2022. Her award-winning work focuses on pedagogical methodologies and assessment across the educational board, popular music performance and interpretation as well as activism, social entrepreneurship and digital business in the creative industries and beyond. She holds a Ph.D. by research in Musicology, a Master's degree in Art, Law and Economy and a BA (Hons) in Applied Music Studies. She has previously worked at the School of Arts and Cultures, the School of English Literature, Language and Linguistics and the Careers Service at Newcastle University, the Faculty of Business and Law at Northumbria University as well as the Department of Modern Greek Language, Literature and Culture at the University of Geneva. She is a member of the British Academy Early Career Researcher Network and a Fellow of the Higher Education Academy.
