Biography
Lingyi Cheng is a doctoral student at the School of Education, Durham University, supervised by Professor Nadin Beckmann and Professor Jens Beckmann. She holds a bachelor’s degree in Computer Science from Beijing Information Science and Technology University and a master’s degree in Education and Psychology from the University of Sheffield.Her PhD research aims to explores the long-term impact of different dimensions of parenting behaviors on children’s social behavior from a secondary data perspective. Specifically, her study examines how various parenting styles shape children’s peer relationships, prosocial behavior, and social skills over time. By analyzing large-scale longitudinal datasets across different sociocultural contexts, she aims to uncover universal and culture-specific factors influencing children’s social development. Her research integrates theories from educational psychology, developmental science, and family studies, employing quantitative secondary data analysis methods to provide evidence-based insights.Through this study, Lingyi hopes to contribute to a deeper understanding of the mechanisms underlying parenting influences on children’s social trajectories. Additionally, she seeks to inform educational and family policy frameworks that support children’s social and emotional well-being.
