Miss Georgia Dimitriou joined the School of Government and International Affairs (SGIA) in October 2019 as an A.G. Leventis scholar.

In her doctoral research, Georgia critically examines the use and scope of 'vulnerability' as a concept in both refugee and migration studies, and in refugee resettlement in the North East (NE) of England. She does so by exploring the Vulnerable Persons Resettlement Scheme (VPRS), where she also aims to offer fresh insight into the potentials and limits of VPRS in the NE in a way that will contribute to the support and bettering of the everyday living experience of the VPRS community residing in the NE.

Before joining SGIA, Georgia completed an MA in Philosophy at the Philosophy Department of Durham University. Her Masters dissertation, which explored our obligations to protect the cultural heritage of internally displaced persons was supervised by Dr Andreas Pantazatos. She also holds a BA in Philosophy, Ethics and Religion from Leeds Trinity University.

Georgia is also a Durham Castle Tour Guide and since January 2020 has been serving as President of the SGIA PhD Association.
