Biography

Evelyn Tehrani is the Senior Manager (Research and Engagement) in the Institute for Medical Humanities, Durham University, and for the Wellcome funded Discovery Research Platform for Medical Humanities.

In her current role she is responsible for developing and co-ordinating the Institute’s external relationships including international and national partnerships with Academic Institutions, Policy leads, Health sector and, Voluntary and Community (VCSE) sector partners, as well as initiatives to strengthen cross-sector collaboration in research. She leads the Strategic Engagement Advisory Group with a membership representing strategic leads from the UK Health Sector and VCSE sector who advise on all Institute engagement plans, policies and initiatives.

Evelyn is a research, policy and engagement professional with almost 30 years experience of working in engaged research, policy and communications in the charity sector, policy sector and higher education. Her previous roles include Communications and Impact Manager at Durham Energy Institute, Durham University; Research Associate at IPPR North (the dedicated think tank for the north of England); Research Manager at Crisis (the UK homelessness charity); and Research Associate at Geoffrey Payne and Associates (an international development consultancy focused on informal settlements in Urban areas).

Evelyn has an undergraduate degree in Social Anthropology and a Masters in Gender and International Development from London School of Economics. Her research interests span a wide range of topics including community engagement and participatory methods, urban and regional development, gender equality, socio-economic deprivation, housing, homelessness and regeneration.
