My research centres around exploring the concept of general control nonderepressible 4 (Gcn4) and histone acetyl transferase (Hac1) forming a heterodimeric transcription factor in Saccharomyces cerevisiae, in the unfolded protein response (UPR). In addition to investigating this interaction, I am also researching how Gcn4 and its associated activator (general control nonderepressible 2 (Gcn2)), are associated with inducing amino acid biosynthetic genes, in response to stress in the endoplasmic reticulum (ER). Through investigating Gcn2 and Gcn4, the link between the UPR and activation of genes controlled by the UPR can be better understood. Following from this, a better understanding of the UPR maintaining homeostasis within the cell can be achieved.
