Biography

Adel has worked in Higher Education since 1999 when she joined the University of Northampton. With a long-standing career in Learning Technology and Digital Learning Adel brings a wealth of experience and pedagogical expertise to Durham through working with academic staff in designing, planning, developing, delivering, and enhancing their digital learning. Adel joined Durham University in September 2022 from Falmouth University, where she supported staff by working with them to plan out their blended and online programmes and modules, determining the best digital tools for their needs, and implementing innovative solutions to subject specific problems. She gets the best results when collaborating with staff; working with subject matter experts who want to enhance their teaching with digital tools and software through the need to take a programme online, or to simply improve student engagement with materials, activities, and assessment in their face to face and blended environments.

Adel has particular interests in digital pedagogy, learning design, and assessment and feedback. She was part of both the Northampton and Falmouth Digital Learning teams in the period that they won the Association for Learning Technology (ALT) Learning Technology team of the year, and highly commended in the same category respectively. Adel is a certified member of ALT (CMALT), and has been awarded with a highly commended case study award from UCISA for her work in using mobile technology in Geography fieldwork.

Having previously worked in central professional services departments, the opportunity to work in the Faculty of Science with the team of Digital Learning Developers means Adel can focus her skills in a rigorous environment, where creative problem solving plays a key role in digital pedagogy and its place in STEM subjects.

Adel holds a PGCHE in eLearning from the University of Hull, a PGCert in Digital Education from the University of Edinburgh, and is currently finishing her MSc in Blended and Online Education as an online student, at Edinburgh Napier University.
