Biography

Abigail's research examines the role of gender in contemporary church music by focusing on the underrepresentation of women instrumentalists in church worship bands. She takes an interdisciplinary approach to engage with questions of experience, representation, identity, and leadership in congregational worship music.

Abigail holds a BA in Music from the University of East Anglia and an MMus in Musicology from the University of Edinburgh, where she developed an interest in the intersection of gender and music—first exploring the social constructs of the violin and later investigating the performance of women rock guitarists.

Her research interests include the relationship of music and theology, contemporary worship music, ecclesiology, gender, performance, and identity.
