Join us for a talk by Brian Powers in honour of Remembrance Day
The Truth Untold: Remembrance and Moral Injury | 7pm-8pm on Friday 10 November 2023 in person in Durham Castle
Brian will talk about the concept of moral injury through the writings of Wilfred Owen and Siegfried Sassoon, speaking on the agony of moral trauma amongst military veterans of modern conflicts. He will suggest that, while remembering the sacrifice of those “who will not grow old” and the cost of war, we turn our gaze to those who will grow old in great moral agony.
Brian is the Vann Fellow in Christianity and the Armed Forces and the Executive Director of the International Centre for Moral Injury at Durham University. He is a former US Air Force Special Operations Weather Team officer who served in Iraq and Afghanistan. His book Full Darkness: Original Sin, Moral Injury, and Wartime Violence was published by Eerdmans in 2019.
This talk is organised by the International Centre for Moral Injury and University College, Durham University.
All are warmly invited. You are welcome to simply turn up; if you would like a reminder email the day before the event or directions to the Bishop's Dining Room, please register here.
