The Institute for Medical Humanities and Blue Cabin are working together to launch a free, nine-month training programme for care-experienced young adults aged 18 to 25.

The creative facilitation training will equip people with new skills and practical experience in leading discussions, workshops and events. The emphasis will be on creating safe and inclusive spaces where everyone’s voice is heard.

“We wanted to develop this opportunity for people with care experience because, as a charity, Blue Cabin’s approach to all our work is underpinned by creative facilitation, which fosters deeply collaborative ways of working with people from a wide variety of backgrounds.” said Jenny Young, director of Blue Cabin which is a North East England-based charity specialising in strengthening relationships between care experienced individuals and the people in their lives through creative activities.

“Everyone who takes part in the training will be welcomed into a safe, supportive community where we will help people gain skills they can use in many situations in the future – from public speaking to organising events and resolving conflicts.

“And the learning will be underpinned by creativity, showing how arts-based and experimental techniques can unlock new ideas, connections and collaboration between people.

“We’re really looking forward to working with the Institute for Medical Humanities at Durham University to deliver this opportunity!"

Mary Robson Senior Creative Facilitator at the Institute for Medical Humanities added: We are thrilled to partner with Blue Cabin to deliver this training, which will help build capacity in creative facilitation in the health and voluntary sectors.

"Working alongside participants with lived experience of the care system to expand our community of creative facilitators is an exciting prospect. We look forward to welcoming them!”
