Akiko Hart, IMH Professor in Practice and Co-Applicant on our Discovery Research Platform, is now in a permanent position as the Director of Liberty.
Akiko has been the interim Director of Liberty – the UK's largest civil liberties organisation – since April 2023. It is a sign of how brilliantly she has led the organisation over that time that the Board have appointed her Director.
Akiko has been a member of the IMH Advisory Board since 2018. In her role as Professor in Practice, she supports the IMH to forge better links with mental health and health research sector organisations across the UK and promotes the work of the Institute at an international level, including developing new opportunities for engagement with voluntary sector and policy organisations within and outside of the UK.
Akiko also played a major role in the IMH's development of the successful £9 million Wellcome bid for the Discovery Research Platform for Medical Humanities and currently co-leads the Platform's Strategic Engagement Group with Evelyn Tehrani.
