Professor Richard Hingley
Ancient Identities: Iron Age and Roman Heritages. Richard Hingley directed this major project, which received three years funding from AHRC (June 2016 to November 2019) and has also recently gained additional funding for a follow-on project in January to July 2022. Ancient Identities includes a team of five colleagues at Durham (Anthropology and Archaeology) and Edinburgh. This project is exploring the variable meanings of Iron Age and Roman heritages across Britain and the European context of ideas derived from these periods of the past. Various publications have emerged and research continues. *Ancient Identities was selected as one of the top 5 insights from the heritage sector by AHRC in April 2019.*
Richard Hingley was formerly an Inspector of Ancient Monuments with Historic Scotland and has served as a Member on Hadrian's Wall World Heritage Management Plan Partnership (2006-2021) and Chair of the Hadrian's Wall Archaeological Research Delivery Group.
