The Lived Experience Academy is a new initiative to support people with lived experience of distress to become research leaders. It involves a collaboration between Northumbria and Durham Universities, ReCoCo, Cumbria, Northumberland, Tyne and Wear NHS Foundation Trust (CNTW) and the NIHR Health Determinants Collaboration Gateshead. The Academy builds upon an accredited programme of training being developed and delivered at Northumbria University entitled ‘Public Involvement and Co-production in Research’, along with a history of collaborative projects among these organisations.
