The CCS Welcomes Dr Catherine Sexton
It is with great pleasure that we welcome Dr Catherine Sexton to the Boundary Breaking Research Team: Examining the Ecclesial-Cultural Implications of Sex Abuse Within the Catholic Church. Dr Sexton has a professional background in international development having held senior management positions in VSO and then CAFOD as Head of International Programmes.
Some of you will already know Dr Sexton from her work with the CCS Religious Life Project, investigating signs of vitality in women’s religious life in the UK.
She was awarded her PhD on theologies of ministry among elderly women religious sisters in the UK in 2018 (Margaret Beaufort Institute of Theology, Cambridge/Anglia Ruskin University), and led a three-year research project in collaboration with the CCS and Margaret Beaufort Institute of Theology on the future sustainability of the apostolic form of religious life for women in East and Central Africa.
Dr Sexton brings not only her theological skills to bear upon the task, but a deep sensitivity to the complexity of issues required. We thank the Society of Jesus and the English Benedictines for making this appointment possible.
Catherine says, "I am delighted to be joining the team at the Centre for Catholic Studies. I am especially looking forward to working with the Breaking Boundary project team and to contributing to this work which is breaking new ground for the church in England and Wales."
