The New Northern Eye - Cryo EM for the North East
Along with Newcastle University and Northumbria University, members of the Biophysical Sciences Institute have secured funding from the BBSRC (ALERT) to bring powerful new cryo-electron microscopy tools (cryoEM) to the North East.
Collaborative Innovation
The three universities will work together to manage and operate the microscope facility efficiently. The microscope will be located at Newcastle University, with a new cryo-EM lab in Durham, and will complement existing strengths in X-ray crystallography and computational structural biology across the three partner institutions.
The new cryo-electron microscope will provide valuable imaging capabilities to scientists across the North East region of England. It promises to lead to many new biological discoveries and innovations.
