At long last, spring is here and so too is the exciting Holi Festival celebration at the Oriental Museum on Saturday 15 March, 12 noon – 5pm. Also known as the Indian Festival of Colours, Holi involves throwing brightly coloured powders over friends and relatives celebrating the victory of good over evil, the end of winter and the arrival of spring.
Tickets for the event must be purchased in advance, and guests will receive one free bag of environmentally-friendly, skin-kind coloured powder to join in the throw. They will be welcome to dance to a mix of Bhangra hits and upbeat pop, while getting covered from head to toe in brightly coloured powders. Additional powder will be available to buy on the day.
The day will also include arts and craft activities, a retelling of the traditional story of Holi storytelling and a chance to cast off any regrets from the previous year in the Pit of Regret. There will be delicious Indian food available to purchase.
Student Hindu Society
This popular annual event is a collaboration between the Oriental Museum and the Durham University Hindu Society. It sees visitors of all ages getting very messy with the coloured powder and dancing alongside our fantastic student volunteers. Embracing the spring with colours, great music and dancing is an important part of Holi. We hope as many people as possible can join us to celebrate
Tickets
Tickets cost £3 per person (children under 2 are free) which includes entry to a timed powder throw and entry to the Oriental Museum and indoor activities. Tickets must be booked online, in advance at Eventbrite.
