Durham Global Week 2025 logo

Durham Global Week 2025 will take place from Saturday 1 – Sunday 9 March 2025. All staff and students are encouraged to get involved, by submitting proposals for events to be part of the programme.

This annual event is a designated period in the University calendar, where we recognise, celebrate and learn from the international multi-lingual, multi-cultural diversity that defines us a leading, global University.
The theme for 2025 is ‘Culture – Connect – Community'.

Events with a global theme

Durham Global Week showcases the University's diversity and global impact through a varied programme of around 50 student and staff-led events. The format of the week will include events from arts and culture to boundary-pushing research. The range of events already confirmed also includes ‘Trajectories of belonging, Culture, Community, Connect’ hosted by DCAD, this event will explore the experiences of our international students.

There will also be a range of activities open to the public, including WorldFest at the Students’ Union. This promises to be a colourful celebration of international cultures, food and music, delivered by student clubs and societies.

Durham Days

In a truly global celebration, our Development and Alumni Relations Office (DARO), will be coordinating a series of ‘Durham Days’, delivering over 30 events being held in 18 countries over the week. Durham Days will bring alumni together to re-connect at professional and social occasions across the world.

How to get involved

We are now inviting proposals from across the University community, from both staff and students, to organise their own "Global Week" events, to be scheduled into the programme.

These events could be anything from a cultural showcase or thought-provoking discussion to a live performance or collaborative project reflecting Durham's worldwide connections. However big or small, your event can celebrate, recognise and inspire. Events can be aimed at all audiences, from staff and students to the general public.

You can propose an event quickly and easily by submitting brief details using the online form. Approved events will be promoted as part of the Global Week programme, raising the profile and awareness of projects and events taking place here at Durham.

Don't miss this chance to get involved and share what "global" means to you!

Global Awards 2025

Global Week will culminate in the annual Global Awards ceremony on Friday 7 March, when people from across the University will be recognised for projects and partnerships pushing Durham's globalisation forward and honouring diversity champions.

Nominations are now open for awards across 10 categories, with lots of opportunities to recognise and celebrate the people and projects, that make Durham a truly Global university. Make your nominations to ensure that both outstanding individuals and teams are recognised for their contributions.
